The Narwhal: If Canada Wants to be a World Leader in Protecting Nature, It has to Start by Taking Action Here at Home

The new Nature Accountability Act is a big step toward protecting nature and all its living things. But for it to really work, it needs to turn our goals for saving nature into actual laws. If someone breaks these laws, there should be consequences.

Take Action

In June, the federal government heeded our call to release its long-awaited 2030 Nature Strategy and corresponding accountability legislation. We demanded an action plan with teeth and we got it!

However, successful implementation of the Strategy is a tall order, as is the task of holding all parties accountable.

In time for the next NatureCOP (COP16) later this month, we are adding our Messages of Hope to the voices from around the world, urging Canadian and international leaders alike to make good on their promises. These messages will be shared throughout the conference as reminders and inspiration for the leaders that they have a responsibility to current and future generations.
