Our petition to demand an update of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) has received hundreds of signatures from Canadians like you who are concerned that the Act must protect nature and Indigenous Peoples’ rights from the unintended consequences of genetic engineering.
Your voice is needed to keep up this momentum.
The Federal Government is telling us they only intend to make minor, housekeeping changes to the part of the CEPA that regulates genetically engineered animals.
This approach makes no sense! Major changes in the technology and threats to wildlife over the last two decades means a real update is needed.
Recently, Nature Canada brought together Indigenous Peoples, scientists, anglers, and conservationists to develop recommended changes to CEPA to keep wild species wild — We must now ensure these recommendations make it into the Act.
In the September 2020 Throne Speech the Canadian Government announced they would be bringing in a modernized CEPA which regulates GE animals and many toxic products in the New Year. This is serious progress. Your voice is being heard — Now, they need to hear from you again.
Please sign and share our petition with all of your friends. There isn’t much time before a new Act is introduced and every voice will make a difference.
