The Carolina Wren is a relative newcomer to our region, having only really started appearing locally in the last 30 years or so. As suggested by its name, this species has historically been a bird of the Southeast US, and parts of Mexico, but in recent times climate change has allowed the species to expand farther northward and year-round resident populations are found along the Great Lakes shoreline.

Each week we introduce a new bird from the Ottawa-Gatineau area. Alex MacDonald, Nature Canada’s Manager of Protected Areas, shares interesting facts about the birds that live in our communities. Catch up on past episodes here on our website.
