Today is the Day to Black Out Speak Out

Today’s the day!
It’s time to Black Out Speak Out — our web site’s home page has been replaced with a message: Silence is Not an Option when it comes to defending two core Canadian values, nature and democracy.
As our parliament considers a budget bill that would vastly transform our environmental protections in the absence of transparent public discussion, Nature Canada has joined with colleagues across the country and you can speak out today too: Send a letter to your Member of Parliament.
More than 500 groups have also darkened their sites and posted the same message — check out Amnesty International, Assembly of First Nations, Canadian Association of University Teachers, National Council of Women of Canada  …you get the picture.
Many members of Canada’s naturalist community have blacked out their sites today — Nature Alberta, Nature Saskatchewan, Nature Manitoba, Ontario Nature, Nature Quebec, Nature Nova Scotia and Nature Newfoundland — thank you! Many, many others have talked to their friends, or taken to Twitter and Facebook to raise their voices against Bill C-38, the budget bill that isn’t really a budget bill.
Our executive director, Ian Davidson, was on Parliament Hill for a photo op and press conference, joined by CPAWS, Environmental Defense, Sierra Club and Amnesty International — and events involving other campaign partners took place in Vancouver, Montreal, St. John’s and many points in between.

Stay tuned into the latest news as it unfolds today, on Twitter, #blackoutspeakout.
