We cannot survive without the ocean; it provides us oxygen to breathe, puts food on our plates, helps us fight climate change, and supports vibrant coastal communities.
Yet, we continue to overexploit and pollute the ocean—driving alarming species decline, disrupting diverse ecosystems, and damaging our long term future. Amazing animals—like the North Atlantic right whale on the east coast, and the southern resident orca on the west—are at risk of extinction.
The vast majority of Canada’s oceans are not legally protected, leaving marine species and their habitats vulnerable and exposed. That’s not good enough for the country boasting the longest coastline on Earth.
We can choose a better future for us and for the ocean.
ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
The Canadian government has made important commitments to protect 30 percent of Canada’s ocean territory by 2030, but we need your help to make this a reality.
Working with Indigenous and coastal communities, Canada must protect more of its ocean waters, and provide leadership on the world stage to restore the planet’s vast blue wilderness to a state of abundance, securing a safe and healthy future for all.
