Nature Canada

Your Voice for Nature

Since 1939, Nature Canada has been the country’s voice for nature. Our mission is to cultivate and strengthen the connections and conditions needed for species and habitats to flourish.

We are a community of nature lovers, with over 250,000 individual supporters, as well as a nature network, providing funds and support to 1200 local groups. We are also a policy champion, working with decision-makers to advance conservation goals.

Our guiding vision (or north star) is of a Canada where nature is restored, thriving, and an integral part of everyday life… where nature is rooted in all the decisions that shape our shared future.

Nature Canada is committed to anti-racism and the promotion of racial justice and equity. We recognize Indigenous Peoples as the stewards of these lands and waters, honouring their knowledge and wisdom, and supporting their leadership in conservation and governance.

Our beliefs

  • Nature has its own worth that is unconnected to human needs. Species have an intrinsic right to exist and flourish. Ecosystems power the entire planet, not just human civilization. When we allow the destruction of nature, we fail in our moral duty to the whole living world.
  • Humans are dependent on nature and kindred to its diverse forms. By protecting nature, we protect and nourish ourselves.
  • Protection of nature requires a strong commitment to environmentally responsible living, in every person’s daily activities.
  • Our strategies for protecting nature are based on sound science, ecological knowledge, and a passion for nature.
  • We are committed to regular networking, effective communications, and coordinated action on issues of national significance with naturalists and others who care about nature.

We envision a Canada where nature is an integral part of everyday life and rooted in all the decisions that shape our shared future…
