Nature Canada and our allies with the Green Budget Coalition spoke clearly about what nature needs to thrive and Prime Minister Carney’s government signalled it heard those calls. The 2025 Liberal platform reflected Canadian’s calls for allocating resources to nature protection and restoration. Today’s budget, however, does not yet provide the funds required to implement Canada’s 2030 Nature Strategy. From Nature Canada’s perspective, a key measure of success for this budget is whether it fulfilled one of the Green Budget Coalition’s key recommendations: delivering on Canada’s nature commitments. On that test, the details are not there yet.

Nature Canada remains optimistic that investments in youth employment, Arctic security, coast guard, and climate competitiveness may be some of the mechanisms through which the Nature Strategy is advanced, given its “whole-of-government” architecture. We believe delivering on the Nature Strategy is core to Canada’s economic resilience, national identity, and global credibility.
