Invited guests include: Officials from the City of Ottawa and Ville de Gatineau, local MPPs and MNAs, local MPs, senior federal public servants, local conservation organizations, and project sponsors including the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Community Foundation of Ottawa.

A celebration of Canada’s national Important Bird Area (IBA) program focused on the release of a draft Conservation Plan, revised boundary map and interpretive elements for the local Lac Deschênes-Ottawa River IBA.

Canada’s IBA program is co-delivered by Nature Canada and Bird Studies Canada, the national co-partners of BirdLife International. This event focuses on Nature Canada’s collaborative work in Ottawa-Gatineau to celebrate, raise awareness of, better protect and monitor birds and nature in the Lac Deschênes-Ottawa River IBA in concert with local naturalist organizations. The IBA is situated in the heart of the National Capital Region on the Ottawa River.

Interviews may be scheduled before the event. Photo ops will be staged during the ceremony. Representatives from the host organizations will be available briefly after the ceremony for media interviews.
