Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter! World Migratory Bird Day 2026

Each spring, environmental organizations and bird lovers across the country come together to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day as our feathered friends return. Then in the Fall, we say “Safe travels! See you next Spring!”

This year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter!” highlights the importance of participating in community science programs and recording your sightings on eBird Your observations help to support bird conservation science and action!

Here you will find everything you need to celebrate Bird Day and take action to save birds:

  • Enter to win a Bird Safety Kit to make your home safer for birds
  • Find a Bird Day event near your community
  • Host your own Bird Day event and share your love of birds

The second Saturday of May and October mark peak Spring and Fall migration in Canada —a time to connect, admire, and advocate for these incredible long distance travelers. As they journey across man-made borders, we must ensure they have safe habitats along the way.

Join us in celebrating, observing and protecting migratory birds. Wonder at their incredible journeys, learn about conservation efforts, log how many you can count and take action to help them thrive in our cities, towns, and villages. Together, our observations of birds in our community help move forward science-backed conservation efforts to protect, defend, and restore local bird populations in Canada and beyond!
