Nature Canada’s Partner in Conservation Award: NatureKids BC

NatureKids BC’s contribution to conservation in Canada is the result of a powerful blend of community engagement, environmental education, and promoting inclusive access to nature. As a partner in Nature Canada’s NatureHood program, the organization has demonstrated lasting impact through a legacy of connecting children and families to the natural world. Over the past year, NatureKids BC expanded its in-person programming across British Columbia, engaging more than a thousand families in meaningful outdoor experiences. This milestone reflects both the strength of its mission and the growing importance of nature connection in building resilient communities.

“NatureKids BC is so very grateful for the recognition among our leaderful peers through the NatureCanada Network,” says Rebecca Law, Executive Director. “It puts wind in our sails and tells us we’re on the right track, even through the challenging terrain of running a province-wide non profit organization.”

A hallmark of NatureKids BC’s work is its commitment to promoting equitable access to green spaces. Through partnerships with organizations such as MOSAIC and Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver, the organization has welcomed newcomer families into its community, ensuring that nature experiences are inclusive and accessible to all. NatureKids BC’s leadership in promoting inclusive space in the conservation sector exemplifies how environmental education can serve as a bridge across cultures and communities.

Stewardship events — from beach cleanups to invasive species removal — offer hands-on opportunities for families to give back to their local environments. These initiatives not only contribute to tangible conservation outcomes but also nurture a sense of environmental responsibility in children and youth, cultivating the next generation of nature stewards. The NatureWILD magazine also continues to be a cornerstone of NatureKids BC’s educational outreach, combining science, art, and family-friendly content to inspire thousands of young readers.

Through 25 years of dedicated work, NatureKids BC has exemplified leadership in conservation education, community building, and environmental stewardship. Its sustained impact and forward-thinking approach make it a standout candidate for the Conservation Partner of the Year Award. The organization’s legacy is one of curiosity, commitment, and connection—principles that continue to guide its transformative work across the province.
