2016 Nature Photo Contest

A big thank you to all of our members who participated in this year’s photo contest by submitting their favourite nature photos and memories! After receiving over 4,000 awe-inspiring nature photos it was tough to pick just 13 of them to be featured in our 2017 Nature Calendar.

We couldn’t have done it without the help of our amazing panel of celebrity judges: Senator Nancy Greene Raine, Michelle Valberg, Mark Graham, Michael Taylor,  Laura Bombier, Les Stroud, and Sandy Sharkey, but most importantly we couldn’t have done it without members like you! Thank you to everyone who voted for their favourite photo!

We are pleased to announce Fox on the Hill by Chris St. Michael as this year’s Nature Photo Contest winner! This photo portraying a Red Fox in fresh snow will grace the cover of our 2017 Nature Calendar which will be mailed out in a few weeks!

“One of the most beautiful wildlife images is a Red Fox in a fresh blanket of snow.  I headed out one winter morning west of Ottawa, in hopes to get such a shot. When I got to the area where I last saw this fox, to my good fortune I saw it sunning on the crest of a hill.  After awhile, it got up and stretched. While keeping an eye on me, he walked up another hill, turned around, sat, and looked at me. He watched me for a few moments while I fumbled with my camera gear. I was thankful for it’s patience while I got in position to take this shot.”  – Chris St. Michael
