Audrey credits her parents for inspiring the deep love and curiosity for nature in her from a very young age. She fondly remembers spending her childhood learning about the world of moths and butterflies with her father and watching bird feeders with her naturalist mother.
Growing up on a farm in the 1940s, Audrey spent much of her free time playing outside and reading about nature. It was around this time that she became interested in Canadian Nature, the nature education magazine from which Nature Canada grew out of years later.
Over the six decades, Audrey has earned numerous awards for her many contributions to the cause of conservation and wildlife management. Most notably, Audrey played a vital role in organizing three Outdoor Education Centres in Ontario and is a published author of children’s books on nature topics.
As a dedicated conservationist, Audrey has been a member of Nature Canada for decades and has made significant contributions, including several gifts of stock.
“Gifts of stock are a great way to support Nature Canada and the organization’s efforts to connect children and adults to nature and wildlife,” shares Audrey. “The earlier we teach children about the value of nature in our lives and the need to protect it, the better chance we have of inspiring them to become environmental stewards of tomorrow.”
