Dr. Stutchbury’s Silence of the Songbirds, published in 2007 by HarperCollins Canada succeeded in raising the level of consciousness and concern around the myriad of factors impacting our songbird populations, many of which can be traced back to our individual choices.  Her latest short story describes her first up-close encounter with the “Butcher Bird,” one of the most endangered species in Canada.  This story is a reminder to us to remain vigilant in protecting our country’s laws to protect species at risk, which are currently under siege.
