Nature Canada

Nature Canada becomes a member of the Living Lakes Canada network!

We are very happy to announce that Nature Canada recently joined the Living Lakes Canada family of organizations! As part of our national Stop Wasting Our Lakes efforts, we have been working with of our provincial partners in the Canadian Nature Network, as well as Living Lakes Canada, who we are working with to promote the national I Love My Lake declaration.

Living Lakes Canada (LLC) was co-founded by Wildsight, the Lake Winnipeg Foundation and the Global Nature Fund, and is one of more than 80 country partners in Living Lakes International around the world. LLC describes itself as follows:

“… a growing network of community organizations working for effective protection of Canada’s freshwater resources. Living Lakes Network Canada links science to action by supporting water stewardship efforts in Canada and beyond. By uniting environmental NGOs who work for the health and sustainability of natural aquatic ecosystems, Living Lakes Network Canada connects Canadians who are working to protect freshwater sources for future generations.”

Nature Canada is of course very proud to become part of the Living Lakes family, alongside groups like the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations and the Keepers of the Athabasca, and we look forward to the opportunities our new-found connections may present over time.

I was personally very happy to participate in this year’s Living Lakes Canada conference in Winnipeg back in May, which was co-hosted by the Lake Winnipeg Foundation as part of its Red Zone III conference focusing on threats to water quality/quantity in the Lake Winnipeg watershed. I delivered a short presentation on Nature Canada’s Stop Wasting Our Lakes campaign and had an opportunity to meet many fantastic water advocates from across Canada.

Of Nature Canada’s acceptance into the network, Living Lakes Canada had the following to say (by letter):

“We feel that Nature Canada represents the very type of high caliber partner that we hope we will continue to attract and build into the [Living Lakes] network.”

Many thanks to Heather and Kat at Living Lakes, as well as our fellow members!
