Toronto Star: MPs Urge Government to Get Serious About Tracking Logging Emissions

A group of almost 30 MPs and senators, including nine Liberals, have added their names to the growing chorus of calls to change how emissions from logging are tracked, saying the current system is "undermining public accountability and creating a hidden subsidy for carbon pollution from the sector."

Their open letter to the federal Climate Change and Natural Resources Ministers emphasizes the need for accurate and transparent reporting to address the country’s greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2030. The letter stresses the importance of accurate data collection, especially in light of the recent devastating wildfire season, and highlights that precise information is essential for managing forests and the logging industry effectively.
