Nature Canada

Call for Proposals: Strategic Planning Consultant

Nature Canada is seeking a consultant to guide the development of our next five-year strategic plan. This plan will set our vision, outline our overall goals, and establish a clear plan to achieve them, all while aligning with our key values, including our commitment to reconciliation, equity and anti-racism.

Purpose

The primary purpose of this strategic plan is to refresh and build upon our current plan, which is in place until the end of 2025. We envision this process as an opportunity to refine our mission, vision, and value statements, assess our current state, and set measurable goals for the next five years.

Scope of Work

The successful consultant will be required to develop a strategic plan that includes the following components:

  • Review of the current strategic plan, mission, vision, and values.
  • Alignment with Reconciliation, Equity and Anti-racism values.
  • Assessment of the current state and key issues facing Nature Canada.
  • Environmental scan of partners and organizations serving environmental sectors in Canada.
  • Engagement with various sectors of our community, including but not limited to staff, board, members, and partner organizations.
  • Facilitation of a Board and Staff retreat.
  • Leveraging of recent research and value proposition work to develop a clear five-year plan with measurable outcomes.
  • Refinement of our mission, vision, and value statements

Budget

The budget for this project is between $20,000 and $50,000.

Timeline

Given that our new strategic plan should be in place for 2026, we expect the new plan to be finalized by October 2025. The process should ideally begin as soon as possible to ensure sufficient time for thorough engagement and review.

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience in facilitating strategic planning processes for not-for-profit organizations, especially within the environmental sector.
  • Synergy with proposed timelines and budget.
  • Ability to bring energy and innovation to the process.
  • Ability to meet in person when necessary.
  • Understanding of Nature Canada and our mission.

Submission Requirements

Interested consultants are invited to submit a short proposal that includes:

  • Project plan and timeline.
  • Budget.
  • Reference from a similar project.
  • Cover letter outlining knowledge of Nature Canada and knowledge of the sector
  • Overview of relevant experience
  • Proposed approach and philosophy of strategic planning for ENGOs
