Nature Canada—along with our affiliate BC Nature and members and supporters like you—continues to bring a strong science voice to the Trans Mountain Pipeline and Tanker hearings.
As you’ll recall, this massive project will expand a 1,156 km pipeline from Edmonton to Vancouver, allowing a U.S. oil company to triple production and ship nearly 1 million barrels of oil sands crude under our communities, through pristine wilderness into Vancouver harbour and on to giant tanker ships every single day. We are participating in these hearings to provide critical testimony and evidence about the impact on species, both in the BC wilderness, Vancouver harbour and our Pacific Ocean.
As I write to you, our scientific and legal team are finalizing the second round of information requests to the oil company about the impacts of the project on birds, whales and the Salish Sea. This is our last chance before the hearings to raise our voices for nature against this risky and dangerous pipeline proposal!
We are proud to work with the best biologists and other experts to bring sound scientific research to bear on key issues such as the impacts of oil spills on marine birds such as the threatened marbled murrelet.
After our information requests are submitted in early January, our experts will also be preparing their testimony for the National Energy Board hearings. You gift will be key to ensuring that they can complete their important research and participate in these hearings.
We urgently need to raise $7,500 to give nature a strong voice at these hearings!
Please, take a moment right now and add your voice!
Yours for nature,
Director of Conservation & Legal Counsel
