As we ring in the joys of the holiday season and look with gratitude to another new year, we often reflect on the key moments of the past year, whether through lists on TV or in the paper or read online. With every member who shares their nature discoveries, memories or wishes, I’m reminded again and again how much nature nurtures our souls. It also reminds me why our members feel it’s important to defend wildlife and wilderness. It’s truly inspiring and heartwarming to know that you care dearly about nature. Thank you for your kindness, compassion and dedication to nature this past year. Your generous support is always hard at work to defend animals, plants, and the clean air… read more →
Our members never cease to inspire and amaze me. I always feel so blessed when chatting with our members about how nature has shaped their lives, the joys they have experience spending time outdoors in nature and why they feel it’s so important to support Nature Canada’s work. Some common threads I’ve heard time and again: whether growing up on the farm and nature was all around them and therefore is part of who they are and why they appreciate and respect it. Or they lived in the city but their parents took them hand-in-hand to teach them about nature and then they did the same to pass their nature ethic onto their kids or grandkids too! “Nature makes me feel grounded, part of the earth’s grand scheme of things. The more I observe and learn the greater the wonder and caring.” – Linda, ON, Member since the 1980s As the end of 2016 quickly approaches, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on our most cherished nature memories this year. What inspires and refreshes your spirit – is it the thrilling call of the loon heard at the cottage or at a campsite? Or the sunlight filtering through maples while on a hike or even the chirp of the songbird at your feeder? Or the dream of seeing a wolf or bear or other endangered species in the wild? Nature has given us inspiration for centuries – and often is expressed creatively through our poems, writings, paintings and sculptures. Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree. – Emily Bronte As the woods are the same, the trees standing in their places, the rocks and the earth…they are always different too, as lights and shadows and seasons… read more →
As the end of 2015 approaches, I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who supported Nature Canada this year. I have been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and generosity of people who support Nature Canada – it inspires me every day. And together we have achieved a lot this year! For example, you raising your voices for the Greater Sage Grouse and its habitat contributed to this summer’s announcement that its habitat near Govenlock, Saskatchewan will be turned over to Environment Canada (we will continue to pressure for the creation of an NWA). Your signing of our petition on Monarch butterflies spurred the announcement by our former Environment Minister and her colleagues in US and Mexico on trilateral… read more →
