Ben and Nuki Discover Polar Bears, by Michelle Valberg

I just received this holiday gift recommendation from our planned giving manager Jodi Joy, and am passing it on to you, dear readers:
Are you looking for a great holiday gift for the children or grandchildren in your life? I recommend the new Michelle Valberg book, Ben and Nuki Discover Polars Bears. Michelle is an award winning Canadian author and photographer whose photos of polar bears are featured throughout the book. Michelle has visited the Arctic numerous times and showcased her Arctic Kaleidoscope exhibit at the Canadian Museum of Nature last year.

This book is a favourite of my own son Noah, who delights in it each time (I still enjoy it 50 times later!) I’m amazed as he asks a new question each time. Last night he asked: How do the northern lights “dance” in the sky? As a parent, I enjoyed the tale of two boys from very different cultures and their budding friendship as Ben (Michelle’s son) embarked on his first northern adventure.  Images and facts about polar bears help the reader learn a few things along the way like polar bears have black tongues.
Book proceeds benefit Project North, a non-profit organization that provides literacy and fitness programs that benefit Inuit youth.  Ben and Nuki Discover Polar Bearscan be ordered online at Amazon; Ben Discovers, or Michelle Valberg.

If you’d like a free, signed copy of Michelle’s book, tell us what children’s nature book you’d recommend.  Send us your recommendation and a sentence or two about what makes it a great book, along with your own name and email address to info@naturecanada.ca, by December 9, 2012, and your name will be entered into a random draw to win. You’ll have a great gift for someone just in time for Christmas!
