Prominent Nature Canada Women for Nature member and former Board Director recommended as newest Senator

A very big congratulations goes out to former Nature Canada Board of Director, and founding member of Women for Nature, Diane Griffin who has been recommended as one of Canada’s newest Senators!

The out of doors and a passion for its preservation have driven Diane Griffin in all her endeavors. Diane had a stellar public service career having served as PEI Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy and a Town Councillor in Stratford, PEI. The nature organizations to which her name has been attached cover the gamut from national, like Nature Canada, Bird Studies Canada, Nature Conservancy Canada to provincial, Island Nature Trust and The Natural History Society of P.E.I.

Diane was also awarded Nature Canada’s Pimlott Award for her lifetime of conservation work. As a former President of Nature Canada’s Board of Directors and an active member of Women for Nature, her voice and passion has shaped our work. Also a prolific writer, she published a book of Atlantic Wildflowers and has penned numerous articles on a wide range of topics including agricultural and trade policies, eco-economics, national forest strategy, natural heritage.

Diane Griffin is a founding member of Nature Canada’s Women for Nature initiative alongside many other incredibly accomplished women including famed novelist Margaret Atwood and Madame Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.

We all need peace and quiet, beautiful natural places to be our touchstones and to replenish our souls.  A walk in nature does that for me.  Also, just knowing we have natural places and wildlife is satisfying”.
