Bird Tweet of the Week: Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker

The name of this species comes from the fact that they tap trees in the spring, just like humans do. The Sapsucker drills neat, horizontal lines of holes into tree trunks and feeds on the sap during the spring and summer. The alternating black and white stripes on the head of the Sapsucker create an elegant look.
