The Northern Flicker is part of the woodpecker family, however you can see this bird poking along the ground for their favourite food of ants or beetles. They will even drum the ground to get at their tasty snack! The Northern Flicker may also be spotted in Ottawa this winter as some of these birds brave out the cold weather. Learn how you can spot this species!

Each week we introduce a new bird from the Ottawa-Gatineau area. Alex MacDonald, Nature Canada’s Manager of Protected Areas, shares interesting facts about the birds that live in our communities. Catch up on past episode here on our website.
