The Goat Creek Trail is a beautiful trail located just outside Canmore, Alberta. It is a mountain bike trail that goes all the way up to Banff! The Trailhead is located in the Ha Ling parking lot, facing North towards Banff. Below is some basic information about the trail and a bit more of a background of what to expect when you travel up to this beautiful area!

Trail Basics:
Distance: 19 km (one way)
Time: 1 – 3 hours (depending on how far up the trail you travel)
Elevation Gain: 176 m
Elevation Loss: 435 m
Physical Rating: Easy – Moderate
Season: June – October

This fantastic trail is great for all ages and difficulty levels, and an excellent way to get comfortable with yourself and a new bike. The trail allows users to determine the distance they wish to travel, and for those feeling particularly adventurous, the trail can be completed in full ending in Banff. If you should choose to complete the trail in its entirety, I would recommend arranging a ride to bring yourself back to the Ha Ling parking lot as well as ample appropriate snacks.

If you do not have a personal bike, or one that is appropriate for the trail, there are several rental places within both the city of Calgary as well as throughout Canmore. These rentals vary from hourly, daily, to weekly and are extremely affordable. Many places offer insurance for a small price which covers you from any damage or accidents, so do not be afraid to really try out the trail.

There are several bear and wildlife warnings throughout the trail, and bear scat was spotted on more than one occasion so it is advised to be alert throughout your trip. It is unlikely based on how busy the area is and the amount of noise you will most likely be making that you should encounter any wildlife (I did not see any critters during my time on the trail), but remember to bring appropriate food storage as to not encourage any unwanted attention.

Below are some photos of the spectacular scenery you will see while on this trail adventure:
