Snowy Owl

Graeme Purdy, from Northern Ireland, took this photo of a watchful Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca) while on a trip to Quebec. “We drove for about 2-3 hours before finding a couple of abandoned vehicles which alerted us to 3 or 4 people a mile away with cameras. We trekked out (-20 cold, cold, cold) and found the owl.”

These large white owls with round heads and yellow eyes, nest on the ground and prey mostly on lemmings.

“I liked this image as the blue sky summed up the crisp, freezing weather as the owl rested”

Thank you Graeme, for the great photo.
