Hello Nature Canada,

I was lucky to capture this Wood Duck drake showing his gorgeous colours high keyed in the snow. He is very proud and he should be.

Larry Kirtley

Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo with us, Larry! This Wood Duck is so vibrant in his breeding plumage, it's almost as if he's a painting.

Wood Ducks will find their mates in January and arrive at their breeding grounds in the spring already paired. This species is one of the few North American Ducks that nest in trees.
