Endangered Species Profiles

In the absence of habitat protection for at-risk species, habitat degradation continues and we can expect Canadian species to continue to decline.

The five-year Parliamentary Review of the Species at Risk Act (SARA) creates an opportunity for elected officials to help improve the federal legislative mechanism by which species and their habitats are protected in Canada.

Collectively, we need to take strong actions to ensure that our imperiled species are given a fighting chance at survival and to truly facilitate species recovery.

We invited all federal Members of Parliament to attend a Species At Risk Cocktail Reception with the All Party International Conservation Caucus, conservation partners David Suzuki Foundation, Ecojustice and Environmental Defence, and industry partners Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) and Mining Association of Canada (MAC). The event was supported by the Ivey Foundation, FPAC and MAC.

The House of Commons Environment Committee will soon resume the mandatory five-year review of SARA. Many MPs joined us to learn why the review of SARA is important and how they can engage in their local constituencies.

Protect Canada’s species and their habitats today and for the future.
