What is FrogWatch?
FrogWatch is part of a national volunteer monitoring program hosted by Nature Canada and Environment Canada to identify ecological changes that may be affecting our environment. Frogs are a particularly suitable indicator species because they spend part of their life in water and part on land. Unlike many other organisms, they are affected by changes to either environment.
FrogWatch participants of all ages can help scientists monitor Canada's frog populations. All you have to do is listen to frogs calling at a pond — or even at the cottage or in your back yard — on a number of evenings over the calling season, record your findings on the FrogWatch data form, and submit the results to your provincial or territorial FrogWatch co-ordinator.
