What could be more Canadian than a long weekend camping trip? Take advantage of the upcoming holiday to relax, unwind and reconnect with nature. Whether you’re going hiking for a day or staying overnight, planning is the key to a successful camping experience. Here is a list of a few items you should make sure you have for your outdoor adventure:

Hiking

Before you go

  1. Prepare your route and gather maps. It is important to know where you can go and what trails will lead you back to your original spot.
  2. Check whether there is an entry fee, if pets are allowed on the trails, etc. It is best to be prepared and know exactly what you can bring.
  3. Leave your itinerary with a friend. This way if anything ever happens, someone knows where you are.

• Hiking boots or sturdy shoes • Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat
 • Backpack  • Insect repellant
 • Water bottle  • First aid kit
 • Compass  • Rain gear
 • Plastic bags  • Picnic lunch and/or snacks

Some awesome add-ons you can bring for your trip includes: a spare pair of socks, a camera, binoculars,  a flashlight and a whistle.

Overnight Camping

Before you go

  1. Reserve your campsite and bring the confirmation number with you. This way it should help in the ease of coming and setting up your tent.
  2. Ensure your vehicle is trip-ready. Make sure you have all of your camping needs.
  3. Leave your itinerary with a friend. Again, it is always better to ensure that people know where you are in case of an emergency.
